⚠️ FydeOS Compatibility Guide

While FydeOS is committed to delivering broad device compatibility and a smooth user experience, like any operating system, it has some known limitations. To help you assess whether FydeOS meets your needs, this guide explains its compatibility with Chromebook devices, NVIDIA GPUs and the Ventoy boot tool.

Does FydeOS support Chromebook devices?

FydeOS can run on certain Chromebook devices, although compatibility depends on the specific model and hardware configuration.

Different Chromebook models may rely on device-specific drivers and configurations for components such as audio, touchpads, touchscreens and other hardware. As a result, the standard FydeOS for PC image cannot guarantee full hardware compatibility across every Chromebook model. For individual users whose Chromebooks are still within the official ChromeOS support period, we generally recommend continuing to use ChromeOS.

However, for Chromebooks that have reached or are approaching their Auto Update Expiration (AUE / EOL), FydeOS can provide an alternative way to extend the useful life of existing hardware — particularly for schools, businesses, and organisations managing large Chromebook fleets.

Why FydeOS doesn’t support NVIDIA GPU

The main reason is that the open-source drivers for NVIDIA graphics cards are not yet mature. Many open-source projects rely on open-source drivers to ensure smooth operation across various devices, but NVIDIA’s drivers have always faced challenges when it comes to compatibility with open-source systems. As a result, FydeOS is currently focused on supporting hardware with more mature drivers to provide a more stable and consistent user experience.

If your device is equipped with a processor that has an Intel integrated graphics card, you may try disabling the NVIDIA graphics card in the BIOS (note that not all devices offer this option in the BIOS) and then use the Intel integrated graphics card to boot FydeOS. Why FydeOS doesn’t support Ventoy

FydeOS for PC is designed to be installed directly onto your hard drive. While Ventoy may allow you to boot FydeOS, it can lead to unforeseen issues, such as problems with enabling developer mode and installation failures. For the best experience, we recommend installing FydeOS for PC directly to your hard drive.
