USB Drive Partitions & Restoration
Understanding Multiple Partitions
When you flash FydeOS onto a USB drive, you’ll notice that it creates multiple partitions. This is completely normal and necessary for FydeOS to function properly. Here’s what you need to know:
- The multiple partitions are part of FydeOS’s design
- Do not format any of these partitions while using FydeOS
- Windows may show warnings about these partitions - you can safely ignore them
- All partitions are necessary for FydeOS to work correctly
Restoring Your USB Drive
When you’re done using FydeOS and want to reuse your USB drive for other purposes, you can choose from these two methods to restore it to a single partition:
Using disk management software like Disk Genius to restore your drive:
- Open Disk Genius or similar disk management tool
- Delete all existing partitions on the USB drive
- Create a new single partition
- Format the new partition with your preferred file system (NTFS or exFAT)
The simplest approach is to re-flash the drive using common USB flashing tools:
- Launch balenaEtcher or Rufus (the same tools you might have used for FydeOS)
- Select any single-partition ISO image
- Flash it to your USB drive
This process will automatically:
- Remove all existing partitions
- Create a clean, single partition
- Make your USB drive ready for regular use again
