Issues with FydeOS on VMware

FydeOS for VMware is a “preview edition”, designed to give you a feel for how FydeOS works and what it’s like to use. However, because it runs in a virtual machine, it has some functional restrictions.

For the full FydeOS experience, we strongly recommend installing it directly on your computer.

Limitations of FydeOS for VMware

Here are the limitations you might find in the VMware version:

  • Linux Subsystem: Not supported.
  • Android Video Playback: Video playback in Android apps is not supported.
  • NDK Android Apps: Limited support. Android apps that use the NDK (like most games) may not work correctly.
  • OTA Updates: Not available. You won’t get automatic Over-The-Air updates.
  • VMware Host File Sharing: Not available. Sharing files with your main computer through VMware features won’t work.

Recommendation:

To experience the full feature set and everything FydeOS has to offer, we highly recommend installing it on a physical machine.
