BalenaEtcher Flash Issues
Troubleshooting BalenaEtcher Image Flashing
We’ve identified some compatibility issues with the latest version of balenaEtcher that may affect FydeOS image flashing. To ensure a smooth installation process, please use one of the following recommended methods:
-
Pre-Decompress the Image: Manually decompress the
.xz
image file prior to flashing. Then, use BalenaEtcher to flash the extracted.img
file directly. This bypasses potential decompression issues within Etcher. -
Windows Users: Opt for Rufus: If you are using Windows, we highly recommend using Rufus as a more reliable alternative for flashing FydeOS images. Rufus has proven to provide more consistent results in these scenarios.
By using one of these alternative methods, you should be able to successfully flash your FydeOS image and proceed with the installation.
What should I do when balenaEtcher cannot be used on Windows 10
This is a known bug, but we found that running balena Etcher as an administrator on Windows 10 can solve most unstable problems. Of course, you can also try these not-so-pretty but old-fashioned and more stable flashing tools, such as Rufus or Win32 Disk Imager.
