Základní škola a Mateřská škola J. A. Komenského in Prague received ten Microsoft Surface Pro 7 tablets donated by the EIB Institute. The devices arrived securely wiped, with no operating system installed.
The school needed a child-friendly platform that worked with its Google Account workflow, supported touch input and Surface Pen use, enabled Android learning applications and remained affordable within the school's budget. In the school's own test, ChromeOS Flex did not drive the Surface Pro 7 touchscreen; FydeOS made all ten tablets usable again.
The devices are now licensed for five years, centrally managed through the FydeOS console and scheduled for classroom rollout in September 2026.
Základní škola a Mateřská škola J. A. Komenského is a public primary and nursery school in Prague 6, Czech Republic, serving 479 pupils. The school is committed to digital literacy, but it also needs technology choices that are simple to operate and sustainable for public education budgets.
The school wanted to turn high-quality donated tablets into simple, shared learning devices without creating a new support burden. Windows did not fit the school's preferred pupil sign-in model and lifecycle goals for these older devices. The school then tested ChromeOS Flex, but in this specific Surface Pro 7 deployment it did not drive the touchscreen, and it could not provide access to the Android applications the project needed.
Installing FydeOS brought all ten tablets back into service. The devices now support touch input, Surface Pen workflows, Android applications, and a familiar Google Account sign-in experience for pupils. The fleet is also managed centrally through the FydeOS console, so multiple pupils can share repurposed hardware while keeping their own credentials.
Ten tablets that arrived as bare hardware are now responsive, centrally managed, child-friendly learning tools. For the school, the project shows how the right operating system can multiply the value of hardware donations and extend useful device life at minimal cost.
