We are updating the pricing model for FydeOS for You. What was previously called a FydeOS Subscription is now called a FydeOS Licence.
This change does not come from nowhere, astonishingly. Under the previous "subscription" wording, the model could sound like a typical Software-as-a-Service arrangement, where access disappears the moment a subscription ends. That was never really how FydeOS for You worked. After an active paid period ended, users could continue using the version of FydeOS for You already installed on their device. What ended was not the ability to use the system itself, but access to continued maintenance, security updates, and support benefits.
So, rather than continuing to call something a subscription when it does not behave like a conventional subscription, we are switching to clearer wording. A FydeOS Licence better reflects what users are actually purchasing.
A FydeOS licence applies specifically to FydeOS for You releases. It does not apply to FydeOS for PC, FydeOS for SBC, FydeOS for VMware, or any other FydeOS releases.
Each FydeOS Licence is bound to a single eligible device and grants that device the right to continue using FydeOS for You. The licence itself is perpetual, meaning the device can keep running FydeOS for You even after the included service period ends, until the device is retired.
Every FydeOS Licence includes a service period, starting with at least one year. During the active service period, the device can receive maintenance updates, security updates, and support benefits through the usual FydeOS channels. These are the same kinds of benefits users previously received under the FydeOS Subscription model.
When the service period expires, you may continue using the version of FydeOS for You available at the time the service period ended, or extend the service period to keep receiving updates and support. Service periods can be extended for additional years, and longer extension options may be available with discounted pricing. A lifetime service period option is also available.
This means the relationship is now easier to understand:
- A FydeOS Licence gives your device perpetual access to FydeOS for You.
- The service period gives your device access to maintenance updates, security updates, and support benefits.
The licence belongs to the device, not the account. You may associate a FydeOS licence with your FydeOS account to manage it, view its service period, and extend it when needed, but one licence cannot be shared across multiple devices. A single FydeOS Licence covers one eligible device running FydeOS for You.
Licence transfer remains possible. If you transfer a FydeOS Licence from one device to another, the licence moves to the new device, and the original device will no longer hold that licence.
For existing users, this change is mainly about clarity. We are not taking away the ability to keep using FydeOS for You after a paid service period ends. We are making the naming and structure match how the product actually works.
The 90-day free trial for FydeOS for You remains a way for users to try the system properly before deciding whether to purchase a licence. After the trial period ends, a FydeOS Licence is required to continue using FydeOS for You on that device.
