Note: This article is transcribed from an interview with Adam Thompson, who serves as the Director of IT for a personal finance services company in Europe. During the pandemic, the company utilized FydeOS devices to facilitate efficient remote collaboration for their customer service team.

We have become accustomed to the fact that deploying new technologies takes a lot of time and effort.

In the past, there was no quick and convenient way to rapidly deploy a large number of devices, applications and operating systems in a large organisation with thousands of employees.

Under normal circumstances, organisations could proceed incrementally, trading time for space. But when an unforeseen global pandemic struck nearly three years ago, time became the most precious commodity.

In March 2020, when we needed to transition nearly 2,000 employees across the organisation to remote working, FydeOS helped us accomplish this task within a two-week timeframe.

This allowed us to maintain a high level of service to our customers, while becoming one of the first companies in our industry to successfully transition to remote working.

Swiftly and securely transitioning to remote work

Naturally, we experienced some initial chaos as we began to prepare for a major shift to remote working.

There were many factors to consider, such as ensuring uninterrupted network access for all departments and the security of our customers’ personal data as we moved to cloud-based operations.

Despite the urgency of the decision to go remote, our IT team was unwilling to compromise on infrastructure security.

By utilising the FydeOS enterprise solution, we have successfully enabled our employees to complete nearly 90% of their work in the cloud, with seamless access to productivity tools such as Office 365, Black Knight and financial regulatory APIs.

FydeOS’ enterprise cloud management platform enabled our IT management team to remotely manage registered devices without physical contact.

For example, they could restrict Bluetooth access permissions or block access to off-whitelist websites and application services during working hours. We also repurposed a large number of office computers by installing FydeOS on older machines, ensuring that all employees could work without physical constraints.

Prior to the outbreak of the pandemic, the company had plans to migrate business operations to the cloud, but progress has been slow since 2016, with only around 10% of scenarios successfully ‘moved to the cloud’.

However, in 2023, we are proud to announce that almost all of our key business operations can now be run completely remotely through the cloud. The timing of our decision to move our operations to the cloud was impeccable.

Cloud computing is the future

In addition to robust security, there are many other benefits to deploying FydeOS.

For example, our IT administrators can use the FydeOS cloud management platform to push and pin links to essential work tools to the browser home pages of managed devices, allowing employees to focus on their work rather than searching for the right tools.

After more than a year of working remotely, we have found that FydeOS devices are not just a temporary solution to the pandemic, but have become valuable tools with long-term benefits beyond dealing with exceptional circumstances.

As our customer service team has fully migrated to the cloud and adapted well, we have decided to continue working remotely for the foreseeable future rather than returning to the office. We believe this will give our staff peace of mind and allow them to approach their future work with a more relaxed attitude.
