#Common questions

Do the websites store my PIN or fingerprint?

Even when you use your FydeOS device PIN or saved fingerprints to sign in to a website, the site never gets your PIN or fingerprint data.

How do I know if the FydeOS device PIN or Fingerprint prompts are trustworthy?

When your FydeOS device prompts you to enter your PIN or touch the fingerprint sensor as part of WebAuthn, the dialog stays on top of your Chromium browser. Notice that the top of the dialog is higher than the address bar of the browser. Your FydeOS device avatar also shows above the “Verify your identity” phrase. These precautions make the dialog difficult to replicate for malicious websites that attempt to mimic your FydeOS device.

Why do I get a failure message after I enter my PIN or scan my fingerprint?

If you get the dialog box but after you scan your fingerprint or enter your PIN you get a failure message in Chromium:

  1. Sign out of your FydeOS device.
  2. Sign in again.
